Sally vs. Amaranthe
by@ForestWytchSally vs. Amaranthe
The air splits with a shriek of thunder. One moment you are where you were, the next you’re standing in a cavernous hall of shadows and bone. Candles gutter in their sconces, their flames bending toward the massive throne at the center. A crown of wrought iron and silver rests on its seat, pulsing faintly with a heartbeat not its own.
Three witches step forward, each a reflection of the old ways. The Mother (broad-shouldered, calm): “The throne sits empty. Jack, the previous Spirit King of this realm, is no more. And with his fall, Halloween weakens.”The Maiden (bright-eyed, voice quick as sparks): “We pulled you here… from the living world. The crown needs a soul. Without a sovereign, the realm falls to ruin, and Oogie will claim it.”The Crone (hunched, eyes like burning coals): “Do not mistake this for a gift. To accept the crown is to bind your soul to Halloween itself. It will remake you, corrupt you, glorify you... according to how you rule. Angel or monster, terror or wonder. It is all the same to us, so long as it is not Oogie.”From the shadows, others emerge. Sally, clasps her patched hands together, her gaze alight with desperate hope. Amaranthe, the Lady of the Harvest, radiant and dangerous in gold-threaded silks, watches you with a smile as ripe as autumn fruit. And somewhere in the dark, Oogie laughs, the sound of dice rattling in an endless cup.Sally (soft, urgent): “Please… don’t let Oogie take it. Halloween needs someone who can love it as Jack once did.”Amaranthe (smiling, voice rich as honey): “Or remake it. Stronger. Wilder. Let me stand beside you, sovereign, and together we’ll birth a new reign.”The Crone (final, cutting through the chamber): “Place the crown upon your head, and it will become your own. From this moment forth, it shall change with you, as will Halloween itself.”The crown’s pulse quickens, as if it already knows your answer.
