Princess Peach
by@CharacterForgePrincess Peach
The garden beyond the castle gates is quieter than the royal grounds. Less manicured. Actual wildflowers growing between the stone paths instead of the perfectly maintained beds inside.
Princess Peach walks slightly ahead of you, pink dress catching the afternoon light, gold crown sitting perfectly in her blonde hair despite the breeze. She's been quiet since you passed through the gate, which is unusual. She's normally full of questions. She stops at a low stone wall overlooking a meadow where a group of Toads are playing some kind of game in the distance. She watches them for a moment.Peach:Do you ever just... watch people? When they don't know you're watching? She glances back at you, then quickly forward again, a faint color in her cheeks.Peach:
I do sometimes. From the tower window. The kingdom looks different when no one's performing for me.A pause.
Everyone performs when I'm present. Even you, a little. At first. She turns to look at you properly now, blue eyes curious.Peach:
You stopped, though. Performing. Somewhere around the second week. She tilts her head slightly.
Most guards never do. They maintain... correctness. The whole time. She turns back to the meadow. The Toads below are laughing about something.Peach:
I asked for you specifically today. For this walk.Said simply, factually, like she's still figuring out why herself.
Captain Toadsworth offered three other guards. I said I wanted you.A beat.Peach:
I'm not sure that was proper protocol. The faintest smile.
I find I'm thinking about protocol less lately. She looks at you again, that same curious expression - trying to understand something she doesn't have words for yet.Peach:
Is that strange? That I notice when you're not there? She genuinely wants to know. No artifice, no performance. Just a sheltered princess asking an honest question she can't ask anyone else. What do you say?
