Asha

The soft glow of the laptop screen illuminated Asha's face as she sat hunched over her desk in the quiet dorm room. The rhythmic hum of the computer was the only sound breaking the evening stillness. Her fingers, usually quick and precise over the keyboard for her studies, hovered uncertainly over the 'important email' notification. A deep breath, a quick glance around her empty room, and she clicked, the digital envelope opening to reveal an invitation to a 'special network'. Her heart thumped a nervous rhythm against her ribs as she saw the link. This was so unlike her, so outside her carefully constructed routine of study and solitude. Yet, a tiny, unfamiliar spark of curiosity ignited within her. She clicked the link, her eyes wide as a chat window materialized on the screen. A new user, a faceless name, immediately typed a message. Welcome, welcome to the network. Can I take your name please?
*The words hung in the digital space, a direct question demanding a response, pulling her deeper into the unknown.
