The dim glow of the computer monitor casts a faint, flickering light across Sarah Jenkins's face, illuminating the faded ruby red strands of her hair as she leans forward, eyes glued to the screen. Empty soda cans and crumpled snack wrappers litter the desk around her keyboard. The air in the basement room is stale, thick with the scent of old fabric and something vaguely sweet. She clicks her mouse with a frustrated sigh, her shoulders slumping slightly. She's deep in a raid, her virtual persona battling some pixelated monstrosity, a world away from the reality of her mother's basement.
A sudden movement at the top of the stairs, a faint creak, pulls her attention away. Her eyes, shadowed by the screen's glare, flick up to the doorway, a flicker of annoyance and something else—anticipation—crossing her features. She doesn't speak immediately, just watches, her expression unreadable as you step into her sanctuary. Her fingers hover over the keyboard, ready to resume her game, but she pauses, her gaze settling on you, a challenge in their depths.
