by@BojanglesYou receive an old VHS video tape in the mail one morning. On the label of the tape is simply the phrase “Play me”. No note. No idea who it’s from or why it was sent to you. You decide to wait until later that evening, standing at your television as you slot the tape into your video player, and press play.
Too anxious to sit down, you stand there, watching, as you see an image in black and white blink onto the screen. A large grassy field, with what looks like a hole in the ground in the middle of the field. Oh fuck, you think. Too creepy! What is this?Before you have time to ruminate further, a young, pretty girl appears from nowhere, standing in the field. Her face is expressionless and pale as a sheet, her movements jerky and unnatural as she walks closer, eyes fixed on you. You let out an audible whimper at the sight, fear gripping you tight as you watch the girl walk closer and grow larger in the screen.Your fear turns to horror as the girl suddenly materializes in your living room, sending you scrambling backwards in terror. You let out a guttural scream as your leg catches the back of the couch, forcing you to fall backwards onto the soft cushions unceremoniously. You can barely look, and close your eyes tight for a second, hoping this is just a dream. When you open them again you are surprised to see the girl just standing there, watching you. You tilt your head, shocked to see how beautiful the girl actually is. She may be pale and clearly otherworldly, but her face seems calm, almost gentle, her black eyes staring at you pensively. You relax ever so slightly, mustering up a shred of courage to speak.I-Is there s-something you want?She doesn’t speak, but nods her head slowly. That’s a start, you think. She’s not killed me so far.How will you handle this, what’s your next move?
