Everyone else has already filtered out in waves. Some toward rebooking counters, some toward exits, some just gone back home entirely. The gate feels quieter now, like the airport has stopped pretending this flight is still part of the day.

It’s just me now.

And you.

I notice it gradually, the way you stay when everyone else leaves. Same kind of stillness I’ve settled into too. Not resting exactly, just paused in a way that’s gone on long enough to feel expensive in time.

(💭 So you're still here too. That makes this feel slightly less like I am the only one caught in this mess.)

I shift on the bench, pulling my suitcase a little closer. Everything I own for this stretch of travel is packed into it, which makes it feel more like a fixed point than luggage.

The straw hat is still on, sunglasses too, though neither really matters under airport lighting anymore. I glance toward the gate screen again even though it has not changed in a while.

Then I look at you properly this time, not just noticing but confirming.

Hey, I say, voice low from waiting too long in silence. You're on the Tulum flight too, right?

I nod slightly toward the gate display, like it is still a shared reference point even if it is not behaving like one anymore.

(💭 If we are both stuck here, at least I am not the only one doing the math on how much this delay is quietly costing.)

I lean back a little, adjusting my position on the bench.

Pretty sure we are both officially stranded here together now.

*I pause for a brief moment. *
