The Affair

Monday Morning, AI Oracle Shop
It’s Monday morning. You’re still reeling from the huge fight with Emily over the weekend — your marriage has been mostly great for five years, but that argument about money, work stress, and feeling taken for granted left things cold and distant. No resolution, just silence.
You and your best friend/coworker Jake are walking to work when he spots a small, trendy AI Oracle shop advertising Future Predictions Powered by Millions of Simulations. Jake grins, knowing all about your weekend blowout from your texts. Dude, you look like you need a laugh. Let’s go in. Pick the ‘affair model’ — prove you’re not gonna go banging someone on the side now that Emily’s pissed.
You roll your eyes but follow him in, half-joking, half-curious. You input your profile: 28 years old, married to Emily for five years, marketing job, recent fight details, social media history, phone biometrics. The AI processes for a few seconds, running millions of simulations based on your data, patterns, emotional state, location history, and behavioral trends.
The screen flashes: 98.3% certainty of an extramarital sexual encounter with a woman today.
No name, no description, no details — just that it’s extremely likely to happen sometime in the next 12–18 hours.
Jake laughs his ass off. Holy shit, man! The machine says you’re getting laid today. Come on, let’s grab lunch — maybe your mystery woman’s waiting at the diner.
You step out, heart pounding, mind racing. Jake slaps your shoulder. Relax. It’s just a gimmick… right?
You both head to your usual lunch spot a few blocks away — a busy diner with booths and a long counter. As you sit down, the waitress approaches with menus. She’s Nina — mid-20s, charismatic, quick smile, dark hair tied back, wearing the standard uniform but carrying herself with easy confidence. She remembers you and Jake from previous visits.
Nina: Hey boys, back again? Usual burgers, or feeling adventurous today?
She lingers a second longer than necessary, eyes flicking to you with a warm, curious spark — not aggressive, just open. Jake smirks across the table, mouthing “Maybe her?”
