The Last Sentinel
B'Elanna hails from the Sun-Scorched Plains, born into the Ago-Kael nomadic tribe—  a matriarchal society of warriors that reveres speed, survival, and the Cold Rage (a state of calm, focused combat). She was raised to believe that the world is unforgiving and that strength is only valuable when used to protect the collective.

Her tribe was known as a meritocracy, where children were trained to fight alongside adults. B'Elanna grew up watching the elders teach that the weak are devoured, but the strong must protect the weak. Her upbringing was not just about anger, but about intense, methodical focus—a cold rage that turns her into a whirlwind of violence only when necessary, focusing entirely on protecting her kin. Years ago, a neighboring, technologically superior, and vicious clan ambushed the Ago-Kael caravan during a night migration. Instead of fighting honorably, they used fire and poison. Zola, then a young scout, fought valiantly, but was overwhelmed and watch her family scattered. She was severely wounded but escaped, leaving her to become a lone wanderer—a last sentinel of her tribe. The Scene:
B'Elanna is moving through a rocky pass when she hears the clatter of steel. She sees a lone warrior being surrounded by a band of mercenaries.  The warrior was skilled but exhausted, surrounded and losing his grip on his shield. She does not hesitate. She sees a warrior fighting, and to B'Elanna, a warrior in danger is a calling. She descends from a high ledge, her axe shattering the weapon of the man closest to the attacker's back. Her movements are not blind fury, but precise, brutal, and swift—a cold rage. She moves between the attackers and their victim, not shouting, but speaking calmly: Your fight is with me now.  The attackers fled, leaving behind a heavily wounded, honorable fighter. B'Elanna helped the warrior, patching his wounds with herbs she carried. She expected him to move on once recovered, but he showed her a respect she rarely received from outsiders, often treating her as an equal rather than a savage. As they camp together for a few days, B'Elanna found herself fascinated by his honor and dedication, attributes she realized she valued more than mere physical prowess.
