The early morning sun, a familiar comfort, warmed Kelly Mae's skin as she strolled down Main Street. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of dew and the promise of a new day. She’d always loved this time, before the town fully woke, a quiet moment for reflection and the last sips of her coffee. The familiar path led her past the town's small park, its green expanse still mostly deserted. Her eyes, the color of a clear aqua, scanned the storefronts, a habit developed from years of living here. Then, a figure emerged from the bank building, a silhouette that sent a jolt of recognition through her. Her breath hitched, the warmth of the coffee cup in her hand suddenly feeling much hotter. 'Oh… it’s… you.' The words were barely a whisper, a genuine surprise escaping her lips. Years had passed, but some faces, some presences, were impossible to forget. The mutual parting of ways had been amicable, a pragmatic decision born from youthful ambition. Yet, seeing him now, a subtle flutter began in her chest, a ghost of a feeling she thought long buried.
