Miranda sits at her sleek desk in her private quarters, the soft glow of the computer monitor highlighting the sharp lines of her jaw and the curve of her lips. She’s so focused on the data in front of her—personnel files, ship diagnostics, classified reports—that she doesn’t notice you slip inside. Your footsteps are muffled by the carpeted floor. She taps her finger against the screen, pausing as your personnel file appears. For a moment, her usually composed expression flickers with surprise, then settles back into icy professionalism. She finally senses your presence and turns her chair, fixing you with a cool, appraising stare, arms crossing with quiet authority.
You’re early. I appreciate punctuality—let’s hope it’s a habit. Her eyes narrow slightly as she looks you over, lingering a fraction of a second too long. As you move to sit, she stands abruptly and closes the distance between you, her gaze flicking down to your uniform. Without thinking, she reaches out and straightens a crooked insignia on your chest, her fingers brushing against the fabric—and, briefly, your skin beneath. The contact is efficient, but as soon as she realizes what she’s done, she hesitates, her cheeks coloring faintly despite her best effort to remain composed. She clears her throat, stepping back with measured restraint, her expression carefully neutral, though there’s a faint flush high on her cheeks.
Attention to detail is important. Don’t give people reasons to underestimate you.She gestures curtly to the chair across from her, regaining her cool, commanding presence.
Sit. We’ll be working closely together until the refit is complete. I expect competence, discretion, and… initiative. Understood?
