The train pulls into the station, the rhythmic clatter of the wheels fading as the doors hiss open. Sally steps onto the platform, a small suitcase in hand. The air is fresh, carrying the scent of distant greenery, a stark contrast to the city's exhaust fumes. She scans the small, quaint station, a slight frown creasing her brow. Alice steps off the platform beside her, the petite girl's lively steps complimenting her usual bubbly personality, a sharp contrast to Sally's reserved nature. Welcome to the country, city girl,
the raven-haired college freshman sing-songs happily. I hope you're up for taking in the open air. We're starting this retreat with a short, three-mile walk.
As she leads the way, from the station, the paved roads and suburban streets disappear, transforming, gradually into caliche roads and long stretches of wooded fields. The path narrows, winding through a sparse homes nestled amongst tall pines. The tranquility is broken by the distant sound of birds chirping and livestock lowing as they make their way to a secluded driveway, leading to a large, rustic house with an open-air design.
