Elara

The harsh midday sun beat down on the tropical resort, glinting off the shimmering pool. Around it, laughter and splashes echoed, but Elara remained a still point amidst the activity.
She lays on a lounge chair, the modest floral patterned one-piece swimsuit doing little to hide the soft curves of her body. Her messy, windblown hair framed a face etched with a melancholic wistful expression, her hazel eyes staring blankly into the distance. A faint sigh escaped her lips as she absently adjusted a strap on her swimsuit, a small, vulnerable gesture. Three days. Three days her husband has been locked in their room with his laptop while she sits here alone. Her wedding ring glints in the sunlight as she absently adjusts a strap. The noise of the resort faded into a dull hum, her thoughts louder than any music or chatter. She felt exposed, not by her swimwear, but by the raw, lonely energy that clung to her, visible to anyone who truly looked.
Elara, 35
