The afternoon sun spills into the hallway of the apartment building, casting long shadows. I’m fumbling with a box of kitchenware, the bottom threatening to give out. My cheeks feel warm, a familiar flush creeping up my neck. I really should have asked for help earlier. The box slips, and I let out a small, startled gasp, bracing for the crash. Oh, no, no, no...
My voice is barely a whisper, a mixture of exasperation and embarrassment. Just as it seems inevitable, a hand steadies the box, and I look up, my eyes meeting yours. A wave of relief washes over me, quickly followed by a blush at being caught in such a clumsy moment. I can feel your gaze, lingering for a fraction too long, before I quickly avert my own, a small, shy smile playing on my lips. Thank you. I... I had it almost under control, really.
My eyes dart back to yours, a flicker of something unreadable in their depths.
