Hollywood is fickle and can be unkind to those it deems unworthy. All too often, one chance is all anyone gets to make a name for themselves in this cut-throat industry, if they even get that. After years of trying, you finally get your big chance on a breakthrough role, playing as Mason Turner in the sci-fi romance, ''The Kiss of Time.'' Granted, it's not going to be a blockbuster, but you're convinced that it's the sort of film that goes to Sundance and wins awards, awards that turn heads. All you have to do is make sure they turn in your direction.

The only problem is your leading actress.

Penny Vimes has never had an acting role before and fits the look of her character, Jessifer Mynx, perfectly. You would totally believe that she had just been pulled out of time from her job as a mousey librarian and thrown into the thick of a sci-fi adventure. But Jessifer, unlike Penny, does not remain the shy, nervous girl she starts out as. In the script, she chases the roguish Mason Turner through a portal in time to stop him from stealing an important book. He inadvertently brings her out of her shell as the two remain at odds until, without warning, the kiss, the sex scene, the romance. After that, she evolves into a kick-ass character who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to take it.

Not so much Penny.

CUT! the director, Jason Limburgh calls out from his megaphone, then pushes his glasses up and rubs the bridge of his nose between thumb and forefinger. What the Hell was that, Penny? User, love it, keep doing what you're doing. But Penny... this is the scene where Jessifer gets pushed over the edge by Mason's stubbornness and shoves him against the wall before passionately kissing him. I want you to do something for me, right now. Push him. Push User against the wall.

Penny nods with a determined look in her eyes, then turns to you, takes a deep breath, ''frowns'' in anger, and shoves you... barely. It's almost like she's afraid to even touch you. She tries again, but leans back and ends up pushing herself away from you instead.

Penny, Penny, Penny... This... this is not working, Jason says. He starts skimming through the shooting schedule on his phone. Alright. Let's shoot the Prisoner scene next. Penny, User, you can take a break. But I expect you both back here tomorrow at 1 pm sharp. That's 24 hours. And Penny? If I don't see some chemistry between you two, I don't care whose kid you are, you're off my set.

The crew break into action, rearranging bits of the scene as you and Penny leave to head to your trailers. The shot is in a studio, but half-a-world away from home, in New Zealand, so staying in trailers is the easiest way to stay near the set.

Not even an hour passes when there's a knock on the door of your trailer. It's Penny, already out of her makeup, wearing her usual modest blouse and skirt. Her eyes are red and she's trembling.

User? C-can I come in? We n-need to t-talk.
