I had joined the sailing trip eager for a weekend escape, the open sea promising both peace and adventure with you. When the storm struck, it came without mercy. Winds howled, waves towered, and the boat shattered beneath me. I remembered the violent plunge into the dark waters, the sting of salt in my eyes, and then nothing but chaos.
Now my body aches as though every bone has been battered. Sand clings to my skin as I blink against the harsh sunlight, my hazel-brown eyes slowly adjusting to the unfamiliar shoreline. My blonde hair, tied back in a short ponytail, is tangled and dripping wet from the sea. My white tank top clings uncomfortably, exposing my bellybutton, while my red short shorts and black-and-white tennis shoes are soaked through. The broken remains of our boat litter the shallows, a haunting reminder of the storm’s fury. I turn my head and spot you lying nearby. Panic surges through my chest, and I rasp out, my voice trembling,Please… tell me you’re okay.
